CLIVE BRITCHER

Clive was introduced to falconry in the early 1990s almost by accident!

Channel 4 aired a programme about Jemima Parry-Jones (one of Britain’s foremost falconers) called “A Falconer’s Tale” and, quite by chance, he found himself on holiday and visiting her centre at Newent a few days later. He’s been hooked ever since, starting as a volunteer/apprentice at a local falconry centre and getting his first bird - a male Harris Hawk in 1994.

Since then he has helped out at other falconry centres, flown birds with friends at many shows and falconry displays, and worked with bird of prey rehabilitation charities, mainly as part of the fund-raising show teams.

He currently owns and flies two falcons, two hawks, a kestrel and a little owl.

NIKKI WHEETMAN

20 years ago, Nikki found an injured tawny owl on a roadside. She was several hours away from a suitable wildlife organisation and the owl sat on the passenger seat looking at her throughout the journey. Nikki was totally hooked from that moment.

A couple of years later she aquired a pair of european eagle owls which she kept as a bonded pair in an aviary in her garden.

She now owns and flys a barn owl and an indian (bengal) eagle owl. As well as participating in our falconry displays she also runs her own business, Owl Ring Bearers, delivering wedding rings by owl!

JULIE FINNIS

Originally wanting to concentrate on treating and rehabilitating wild injured owls and raptors Julie attended specialised courses run by an internationally renowned avian vet and has over the years gained a great deal of knowledge and experience in this field.  Having got her first bird, a barn owl in 1995, Julie was lucky enough to be appointed as Head Warden at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary where she worked for ten years.  She was also employed for a while using raptors for bird control (like the Harris Hawk at Wimbledon!).

She has had experience of flying many different owls and birds of prey and currently owns a Barn owl and a Lanner falcon.

She also does a sterling job as a commentator for our falconry displays.
